Currently in the middle of coupler replacement (engine out, bellhousing off) that I suspect was due to original mounts being worn out and alignment never done by PO.

Can the mounts be removed while housing off? Do I need a press to remove and install old news? Finally, it appears the kits comes with a washer / spacer with a angled ID. I cant tell from any pictures ive searched where exactly this goes in the sequence and more importantly, its orientation.

thanks again, tom

I burn the insert out first then drive the remains out with the correct size drift .This removes the sleeve and spacer.
New spacer goes in flat side up and use a tool I made to install the new rubber

Thanks! Same with front one I assume?

Awesome little tool! Give me the specs and I'll have a couple made and send you a new spare! :)

The Doctor shows the correct part orientation and method. I don't have his device. So I use a pair of 1/2" drive sockets. One that just slips through the top hole, the other just large enough to swallow the mount.

You will need a piece of 7/16" all thead rod, 7" long min. Two jamb nuts under the receiver socket, and one to tighten. Thick washers under the nuts, and plenty of lube on the threads. This removes the old mounts.

To install reverse the process, but use a third socket that just slips into the mount bore as the driver. Avoid cocking the mount, or you will have to start over.

Do this with the hsg on a bench if you can.

maybe I should patent it but with a lathe or cnc is not hard to make. The one on the left locates the center when placed on the top of the housing. The inner sleeve just buttts up against it when the rear mount is installed and seated. The one on the right is just undersized to fit in the housing but large enough to support the sleeve on the rear mount. Threaded rod just pulls it together

Very elegant tool.

When I did mine, I just used a socket and a bench vise to push it together. Not all that tough of a fit. If I was doing more than one in a decade I'd have a tool like Bt Doc built. Very nice. Probably easy to use a ball joint press with a little adapter as well.
