rear engine mounts removal and install procedure

I have been looking for a actuall replacement procedure for the rear engine mounts. It is a 1997 4.3l alfa drive. One thing I am not sure about is the removal . Do you drive them out from the top down or bottom up. I have seen many pictures of all the hardwhare positions but no procedure. Also is there a shoulder in the bell housing you drive the new ones to set the depth of the new mount. If not how do you know where to drive them to. Just trying to understand before I tear into it. Any help would be appreciated.

I prefer to burn the inner sleeve out, burn the remaining rubber, then try driving it out from the top down. Worst
case you`ll have to get the inner shell to crush with a small screwdriver.
To install, clean and lightly sand any corrosion away and drive them IN STRAIGHT untii seated.I have pics of a tool i made to install them, Most use a socket and C clamp.

I've wondered about that too. Your technique sounds good. But what about how deep? & is there a stop?

you install the inner spacer first to the stop, then the mount .

Thanks for the info, So there is a stop to drive them to for the depth. Thats one of the things I was not sure about. I do not have the old ones out yet so I have not seen whats in there yet. Just trying to get the info before I start.

Bt Doctur, Do you use a hand propane bottle with a torch to burn them out or something bigger.
