I'd like to get a rear view mirror for my 2007 Bayliner 205BR not for towing skiers etc. but just to help keep an eye on if there's any boats coming up on me from behind, and the passengers in the rear of the boat. My boat being a bow rider has the walk though windshield, and I have a cover I put on the boat after use. What I'm wondering is what others have used for mirrors that offer good visibility, I'd prefer something that doesn't have to be removed when putting the cover on. Any suggestions ?

This is a sore subject with me. My old boat had a perfectly fine mirror that served me well for 35 years. When I bought the Whaler I tried a $100 Cipa, which was also a fine mirror, but it didn't fit. I ended up with the little plastic Cipa cited above. I had 2 of them and both ended up getting put in the garbage.

The first one was so distorted that it was not usable. I complained to the manufacturer and they replaced it. I could now see thru it, but after the 3rd boatride I just tapped it with my elbow and it broke right off.

So, if you really want one that works, it needs to have a glass mirror, not a polished piece of thin SS. Also, the bracket needs to be metal, not cheap plastic.

What I ended up with was a Seachoice model 79501. Google it above - IBoats carries it. They all come with windshield clamp-on brackets, but I drilled the windshield frame and installed 2 small SS screws.

Its very sturdily built, but nevertheless I throw a small piece of canvas over it when I put on the mooring cover.

Both my old bayliner and current malibu have cipa mirrors. If you want something fancier then ptm mirrors are very nice.

Nothing wrong with a Cipa. They make the cheapest one on the market, as well as one of the most expensive ones. It just depends which model you buy.

Thanks for the feedback, I found an old UTV mirror that I might try to modify to work with a radar detector suction cup I have laying around, if I can't get that to work I look at the ones you suggest.

Just looked at the PTM mirrors, man they're proud of those things.
