Reason for Alarm

I have read many threads both on this site and other boat forum sites about alarms going off on Volvo engines.
Most will point to a faulty sensor /sender for exhaust or oil pressure.
My own engine, a 5.7 litre GXI-f has been alarming in a progressively worse pattern for 6 months. I have fitted new sensors/senders to the risers (after unplugging both to narrow down the problem to there), but the boat still goes into alarm after now only 10 minutes at 1500 rpm.
So the alarm is sounding for a reason, what is the alarm telling me to check/ fix/repair???
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Reason for Alarm

You need to hook up a diagnostic computer and find out what is causing the alarm. Unplugging some sensors will set the alarms off.

Re: Reason for Alarm

Thanks Don,
Would the sensors just switch to ground when they are triggered??
there is only one wire going to them.
Unplugging the starboard exhaust sensor seems to get rid of the alarm.
Is the diagnostic computer freely available or is it exclusive to Volvo dealers??
Cheers!
