leave the trailer hitch in the reciever. I always leave the hitch in the reciever even though we only pull the boat out once or twice a year (lazy as she would say).
Took LF's Sequoia to fill up a soft tire tonight. Finished airing up the tire and started to back up between 2 gas islands. Looking in both side mirrors. Got confused I guess 'cause I swear I was between them. BAM! hit something. Oh sh*t, I'm never gonna hear the end of this. Jumped out only to find that I had backed directly into a concrete column holding up the canopy. It was 12" in dia. and I hit it dead center with the hitch. No damage anywhere. Thank you God.

Good idea until you take an ounce of flesh out of your shin while in the process of loading the truck bed. :( Been there, done that!
:D

Re: Reason to.....

Mr Ladyfish, that's one of the reasons I always leave my hitch in place. The main reason I leave it in is because of tailgaters. Belive it or not, but people seem to not tailgate as much when they see an extra foot sticking out of the back end of my truck, and the last mini-van I saw that was involed in a rear-end colision had a hole in her mini-vans front(plastic) bumper. The vihicle she hit(guy with hitch) had no damage. PDS

Yeah, I definately will allways leaving the hitch on once I get on installed on my new truck. I was riding with my friend about a month ago and he rear ended someone at about 15mph. Hit the hitch of a pickup truck, didn't even make a mark, although the bumper and grille on his blazer are toast. :D

If you leave the hitch in all the time it can rust into place. Some people might like that but I like to keep my options open.

I hit the rear of a lady that had a hitch. Not a scratch on the rust of her crappy ole ball, but my bumper folded around it.

Used to have an s-10 blazer with class III on the back

Guy in a Jag rear ended me one morning.... screwed up his day, but no damage to me. That day on I left it in all the time. It is a good Idea to take it out and spray with sum W-D every once ina while... maybe make that part of your oil change regiment.... I didn't, so when I sold the truck, the pin was trash,.. rusted, had to beat it out with a hammer.
