Reassembling 1982 80hp

I just picked up this motor from a guy clearing up stuff left on his property. I might as well try to get it started and see what happens.

There was apparently something wrong with it since the PO had started light disassembly but I don't want to burn up good parts by crossing voltage.

This heavy gauge yellow wire comes off the solenoid but I can't tell what it hooks up to. Hopefully it's not too close but it's on the lower half of the starboard side

If it is a heavy gauge yellow, it should go to the starter. Do you have the s/n of the engine?

Yep - S/N 6174929
Also - I just downloaded (paid) a service manual but much of it is VERY general. I have one for the exact model year of my Johnsons and it's a different story.

It is "Manual Publisher 2005." And thank you for the tip on the yellow wire - I finally found the page in the book that has that.

It cost $4.99 and it is 557 pages. It's a bit cumbersome but the pertinent information seems to be there. Here's the table of contents:
