Rebel 1625XL SS with 50hp Merc 2 stroke

Hi All, I'm considering purchasing a Rebel 1625XL SS with a 50hp Merc 2 stroke but I'm concerned that it's not enough power. The boat will usually be used with 2 adults (less than 350 pounds total weight) or 1 adult and 2 kids for similar total weight and occasionaly 2adults/2kids for a total of about 500 pounds. I'm not concerned about the top end speed but obviously need it to plane fairly easily. Boat is used so no option to upsize the engine, I can probably get a test ride but the boat's located a long way from home so I'd like to get a few opinions before doing the travelling. I have a Rebel 1650 with a Yamaha 50hp 2 stroke. I can plane with 4 adults and gear. You should have no problem.

I have a Rebel 1625XL SS with a Merc 60hp 4 stroke. I would think that the performance would be very similar. I put a "Sting Ray" stabilizer on the lower unit to get it up faster. It is fine now. It will cruise at around 30mph at 5000 rpms. It will run around 36 or 37 at around 5900 rpms. I am very please with the boat and the performance. Easy to handle and load. I fish by myself most of the time or with one other person and the performance is not affectd by more than a mile an hour or so. Hope this helps. Love the boat. Hope it works out for you.

The boat with that Merc 2 stroke is a great combination. That motor is bullet proof- old school and very easy to work on. It will perform very well. That 2 stroke is light and you should expect to see about 35 MPH out of it if it is properly propped (give or take depending upon load and how well it was rigged). If it is in good shape and the price is right, I would not hesitate to buy it.
