Sure you can. The maching of any parts will need to be done by a pro but the rest of it is pretty basic.

Words of advice: GET a manual. An OEM one.

Most likely you'll be fine. You may need aspecialized tool or wheel puller fo rthe flywheel but the money you'll be saving can easily cover the cost of a speciality tool. (I didnt need any special tools for the rebuild of my 1995 150)

The manual will call for a few special tools but they are usually not needed or can be worked around.

Good luck!!

im sure between the pullers myself, my step dad and friends have i will be able to come up with something to get the flywheel off.

currently the boat has a 115hp chrysler on it and im going to see a guy tomorrow eve that really knows his stuff about these motors to see if its worth building and if not .... ill be doing the 135 johnson i have. the bonus of the johnny is that it has tilt and trim although the trim motor is totally shot and missing parts ( cap is off ) thanks guys, scott
