Rebuild on 150 Vro

I have to replace a piston due to rings failure i got it pulled out and the rings or flat up against the piston the dont stick out so the cyc ha no compresson any one have any idea about what would have caused the rings todo this it had also been ovr heating bu todayyi foud thhere were no thermos in it and it had a bown head gasket

Overheat, lean fuel mixture or excessive carbon will cause rings to stick in grooves.
