Some of you may know, I've got a minor compression issue in my
1983 50hp, model#507H3D. I'm in the process of diagnosing that
issue with today's stage being a "decarb" using Seafoam. Any
advice in that arena is greatly appreciated.
However, here's today's dilemna. I've come across another 50hp'er,
that has a bad lower unit. Everything in the top is fine and included
with 123lbs on one and 125lbs on the other cyclinder. Since I have
a good lower unit and the compression difference (100lb on lower, 130lb
on upper), should I just purchase this other motor (it's only $150.00),
swap out the lower unit, and move on? I should add that a gasket kit
that's complete and includes the headgasket is going to run me almost
half that amount once shipped, but, it does include every gasket on the motor).
