I have a lower unit that was disassembled years ago, lying outside it now has some rust here and there but I figure it a plausible salvage but no ocean-crosser. The gears and clutch dogs needs some milling where they engage since they have been slipping. Also I found the pump drive has been sheared of the front most gear, I remember reading somewhere else that back in the days it was a popular tune of the gearcase to remove the guts of the pump to get an extra hp or so on the propshaft. The shift would operate anyway but without the "assist".
Is this adviseable? Otherwise i need new gears and it will cost more than it tastes, basicly I just wanna make it go without spending anything else than the seals.
