If you look in my previous post about the popping, it ended up being a failing head gasket. i managed to take apart the heads and did find that the gasket was leaking in to cylinders 3, 5 and 7 thus preventing the spark and fuel firing off.

I was going to ask that since i have the top half apart, is there anything i should do while i got apart?
I was thinking to start a nice thorough cleaning of all the parts, wire brushing, grinding and sanding of all the rusted surfaces and some painting of the exhaust parts.

I was thinking of taking the heads to a machine shop and getting the valve seats reground, the stem seals redone and the heads cleaned and pressure tested.

I will be replacing all the bolts for the heads and the intake manifold as most were pretty rusty.

i had one bolt get and it was a riser bolt on the starboard side. Have drilled it already and will retap it.
Is there anything i need to do with the rockers or lifters? anything to check?

Are there any performance things i can do while i got it apart like this?

Will the felpro head gasket kit work okay?

Its the 350 Mag carb version and i thought an easy thing would be to add a riser for the intake, but not sure how effective that would be since i won't be doing anything to the exhaust. I have thought about the through hull setup, but don't know if i would like the loudness all the time.
