just started my 80hp rebuild, sn#5481098 and this is what i found. also, if anyone knows any tricks, tips to get some more bottom end out of it, or make it easier, that would be sweet.

only #1 looks hurt. but i need to get a flywheel puller and tear it completely down to know for sure.

cant get ahold of a flywheel puller any time soon. is their anyway to pull it without using mercury's?? i dont want to use something that will hurt it either.

Couple of those pistons are in pretty rough shape. Probably going to need a rebore in your rebuild. Simply rebuilding it properly should bring your bottom end power back significantly. Make sure you find the cause of the piston damage - overheating? gummed up carbs? improper timing adjustment? lack of maintenance/decarbing? Any one or combination there-of could result in scored pistons....

only one of them was out of spec, the one with the huge hole. while i have it apart, im just going to go through everything. make sure i have everything covered. i think that i found the problem. the filter in the tank collapsed and fuel will barely flow through it. now im on the hunt for a machine shop that will bore a blind hole. since their stock size, im going to go .015 over. to my relief, the reed blocks still have their groves in them!!yaa!!!

got it all pulled apart. the block is going to the machine shop today. im hoping that they can use acid to get the aluminum skuffs off of the bad cylinder that way they wont need to bore it out. saving money. everything else is within specs, and the read blocks are still good. which is a relief! gotta love the roller bearings. great on wear, not easy to assemble.
