Rebuild warrenty question

I'm looking at purchasing a different outboard motor for my boat. Looking at a 35-40 hp Evinrude/Johnson. The shop I'm looking has a warrenty for 60 days on a rebuilt motor for 100% of bill. My question is this doesn't sound very long period of time. Is this about right?

Re: Rebuild warrenty question

30-90 days is the norm for some shops, If I reman a powerhead I offer 120 days if I break it in.

The warranty on a new engine has been for one year in the past, a used engine was always 30 days (has this changed?).

I think it's unlikely that you would find a warranty on a rebuild of any kind (powerhead, lower unit, whatever), to run longer than that 60 day period.

I would suggest that you hold off the purchase until the weather is such that you can start using the engine immediately and daily to give it (and you) a fair trial.

As Joe said , hold off on buying it until you can take it out and run it right away. There are places that start the warranty the day you buy it and no "Ifs ands or buts" if it blows 2 months later and this was your first day of running it.
