I have a 1987 90 HP Merc. I have new carb kits and am getting ready to pull the carbs for cleaning and rebuild. I was looking at the linkage that connects the 3 carbs together, it's a square plastic bar with plastic clips.
How do I get the linkage off the throttle arms without breaking the plastic clips and disturbing the adjustments on the linkage? I have a Seloc repair manual and can't find where it covers this part of removing the carbs. I want to do this right without messing something up.
The engine was tuned up by a Merc Mechanic and timed and linked and synced the last season the previous owner ran it, about 2 years ago. I don't think the carbs have ever been off the engine, if they have it's been a long time. Is it possible to rebuild the carbs and just get by with adjusting the idle screws and not doing a link & sync again?
The reason I want to clean the carburetors is because it's been 2 years since it was last ran and they have been using gasohol.
