Rebuilding carbs

My Nissan 2003 30hp 4stroke is idling rough and won't take anymore throttle past mid way. I believe I need to clean carbs. Besides an air hose and carb cleaner what else do I need? The carb rebuild kits are $50ea x 3. Should I pull the carbs first and see if I can clean them or should I just go ahead and order the rebuild kits? Wondering if I can reuse same gaskets. Thanks.

Clean it and skip the parts. Worse case is that you might need them, but 19 times out of twenty you won't.

Re: Rebuilding carbs

Do you know of any good carb rebuild manuals for Nissans or outboards in general? Thanks.

The factory service manual is available from any Nissan, Tohatsu or Mercury dealer.

I would recommend the Factory manual as well: Covers 25A & 30A 4-stroke models. Part# 003N210530, $27.58. If you will be cleaning the carbs, be sure to do it right. Don't just use generic carb spray. Do a thorough and complete carb disassembly, and a 4-hour soak in real carb dip, then blow out all passages with the generic carb spray. You won't need compressed air.

In the event that you do need a carb kit, you can get Part# 346871220M for $44.40, from any dealer. One kit does one carb.
