I am needing to do some rebuilding of my deck inside my 86 Trophy. Does anyone know if I can use treated plywood or must I use marine plywood. I wonder what the factory uses? If you know give me a hollar!

Re: Rebuilding deck

I talked to a guy who works at this and he said you should coat the wood with an apoxy or resin and drill the holes before or the wood can crack. Don't have the exact answer to your question but thought this might help.

I'm no expert but have asked these questions earlier while rebuiding my aluminum boat. regular treated wood, as I've been told, reacts with aluminum. I have used marine plywood. If you have something other than an aluminum boat I dunno.

Re: Rebuilding deck

There are several types of plywood you can use...
MDO, Marine Grade, Arauco, ACX Fir, BCX Fir...
The biggest concern is that the plywood be laminated with a water resistant glue.
It needs to be rated for exterior use.
No matter the type, you need to properly seal it against water intrusion.

Re: Rebuilding deck

If this is a glass boat then you could use PT plywood but, I would not recommend it unless it's a specific type. Most of the PT you get from the Big Box stores is Wet and can take several weeks to dry out an takes proper prep to keep from warping badly. Most people here on the forum use ACX exterior grade plywood. The Arauco Brand is very good. 7 plys and very few voids. As mentioned above it should be saturated in polyester resin and then covered in Chopped Strand Mat. As a more expensive alternative it could be coated with 2-3 coats of epoxy resin with not glass cloth required. This will give you some more details."Fabricating Decks, Stringers, and Transoms"
