Rebuilding Fuel Fittings (2-line OMC)????

I'm sure this topic has been asked before and I've seen some threads on basically how to do it, but those just didn't seem descriptive enough and I couldn't seem to visualize what was going on. I've heard there is sort of a jig that you need to make and push it from behind? Just want to make sure. A step by step with pictures would be extremely beneficial. They are the 2-line OMC pressure tank fittings.

Thanks in advance.

There are several types of fuel pumps. Impossible to answer your question without knowing what you have. If you are talking about that 5.5, it probably is not rebuildable, if the original pump.

What he's talking about is the jig you could put the 2 line fuel tank fittings in to replace the o-rings. It was an OMC special tool. But I know there's a way to get around using that tool and I think I've seen it on here but I never worried about it cause I've got the tool.

Shame on me, my stupid!!! I need to learn how to read.

I happen to make those jigs. Send me a PM if you are interested.

FR. That jig looks just as good as my orginal OMC. Good Work!! I always liked to use the jig to repair the fitting rather than the pick and punch method. That way I knew I got all the crap out of it and it was put back together correctly.

FR, that is exactly the type of reply I was looking for. Do you have a blueprint you could give me? I know you sell them, but I'm sure I could make one myself (I have access to a full machine tool shop). Do you use a CNC mill or what?

I'd really appreciate a blueprint, otherwise I could probably just rough something up myself. Either way, thankyou for your reply and this has helped tremendously.

I make them nine at a time on an ordinary vertical mill, doing a heap of lead screw cranking and counting. They average a bit over an hour apiece to make, if I don't make a fatal error. I'd say I sell them at a bargain price. Take the measurements off the fuel connector.

Another cheaper way is what they used to show in the service manuals.

Cut 2 6" lengths of control cable inner wire. Bend one of them with an 1/8" 90? angle.

Use the straight one to push the connector's fitting inward and use the bent wire to turn and catch the o-ring to pull it out. Sometimes sharpening the bent end makes it easier to get behind the o-ring.

Oil a new o-ring and while pushing in on the center piece, push the o-ring into its groove.

Once you do it a couple of times, it becomes a lot easier.

As seahorse5 says, I do the same. I use dentists picks I got for about $5 at our Princess Auto (like your Harbour Freight). It's pretty easy. The first time take a bit but the rest are easy... 5 min each once you're used to it and the hardest part is getting the connector firmly in the vise without mangling it.

Re: Rebuilding Fuel Fittings (2-line OMC)????

Yea, I need a full rebuild on these ones. I 'rebuilt' another one by somehow pulling out the O-ring and squeezing a new one back in. It didn't seem to fit right in the groove and never quite sealed when pulled off the motor (but did fix the 'while running' leaks anyway).

As previously stated, These definitely need a full rebuild because the previous owner tried to use them with a rusty inside tank (and in turn rusty gas) so long story short- the fuel side is seized. It is to the point where it won't even open anymore. I do have the other female fitting available if this one is completely shot, but would like to see if I can get this one working also.

You didn't state what brand o-rings you used for your rebuild but I've read posts on here about some brands of o-rings not fitting quite exact. I THINK (hoping someone else backs me on this) the OMC/BRP dealer/original equipment ones are the ones to use. Other brands, especially if you just tried to match one at a hardware store, may not fit exact.

The one I have leftover from the job appears to be a Sierra 18-7111 (says replaces OMC 301824). I got it from an older marine store up in Iron Mountain, MI while camping and they said it's what I needed. I replaced it with a knife and a screwdriver in lantern light..... so it wasn't exactly my best work. The main problem is that it either isn't seating right or the ring is just too thick.

Either way, this one needs to be fully disassembled before being even close to usable condition. No quick fixes here.

The project continues.

The Sierra o-rings are completely wrong size. Too fat.

Yep, I could've told you that one. They looked way too fat and consequently, they didn't work.

I only use the OMC ones. The others I tried (don't recall the manufacturer) just didn't fit well and leaked. For $2 each I'll use OMC's until something better comes along.

Can you just get rid of the old connectors and replace them with some kind of quick connect? That way you dont have to mess with the o-ring BS.

this thread is way to old to re-live....but the answer to your question is yes.
