rebuilding fuel pump. Stuck!

I have my fuel pump apart, rebuilding it. I have the correct replacement parts, diaphragm, filter, ... I cannot get the spring loaded diagram piece (spring loaded part) out of the fuel pump. It's connected to the crank arm somehow down inside the pump.

Help.

depending on motor, it's usually cheaper, or maybe same cost, but easier to just buy a new pump.

Re: rebuilding fuel pump. Stuck!

Yeah, I know, I hate it when other people do that, not telling the obvious details. Then I go get excited and do the same thing. Very Sorry.

I got it off finally. It was for a 1984 mercruiser 4C 140hp. This rebuild kit cost $45. It included new fuel filter, diaphragm, and gaskets. Before the rebuild, I was getting .25 - .5 fuel pressure reading. Now I am getting about 2.0! Not awesome, but just below the acceptable range.

It was bogging down under load, and couldn't maintain anything over 2000rpms. I took it out today, and it was able to hold up to 4000rpms, 35mph. Even still, once I tried to push it really hard, and WOT from a stop, it bogged down before I reached 20mph. I backed off a bit, and it recovered quickly and got to full speed. This is a major improvement, but still there is probably more work to be done. No, there IS more work to be done.

Thanks for reading the post and Ill try to do a better job giving you the info you need.
