Going to overhaul my Johnson 135 next winter after I finish restoration on my Rinker hull this summer and I was wondering if any of you can give me some good sources for parts? Not sure of the engine year ( try to find out tomorrow) but I believe it is between 73-75. Also want to get the cowl repainted like factory. Can any auto body shop do that or should I take it to a marine repair shop to get it done. I would do it but my expertise with painting is non existent
As always any advise is greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Jason

The 1973 block is different from those in the rest of the 135 series through 1976, although the gearcases and most parts interchange. You will probably find a quarter-sized welch plug on the top of the port cylinder bank which will give the model number so that you can determine the age.

If you don't have one, you would want to have the model specific factory service manual before you begin the restoration. You can usually find a used copy on Ebay.

You can generally save around 40% on hardware by dealing with salvage yards in a motor of that vintage. iboats carries CDI ignition parts so you could buy most of those here.

BRP/Evinrude has a online store, complete with diagrams of your motor. It is very easy to order new parts: http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=8dcb6c8c1adbf5ad955286e026c798c6
