I am rebuilding a 1976 115 hp johnson carburetor. In the manuel it says the float drop should be 7/8-1 1/8 in. Does this mean that anywhere in this range is ok or one need to be 7/8 and one needs to be 1 1/8?

Thanks for all the help.

Don't forget float seting the other way.....float should set level with the float bowl gasket surface.

OBJ, on the same subject.
I haven't done a thousand of these, but I've rebuilt a few. Am I just lucky, I always set the float as you said , with carb inverted and level with gasket surface.
I check the drop , and its been right , every time.
Have I just been having a bit of good luck , or does this happen , most of the time? Thanks,
KYHunter

Re: Rebuilding johnson Carburetor

Sometimes you find one that needs the drop set KY. Several weeks ago I was setting a float and couldn't get it right....just seemed I had to bend the tang a lot to get the level I wanted. After muttering a few words of endearment, I turned the body upright and found there was NO drop. Happens. :)

Thanks OBJ,
I was curious, the two I just rebuilt. Had the floats set much higher then level, with the gasket surface. I dont know the history or how it ran like this.
I adjusted the old ones level, with the gasket surface. The float drop was fine, kinda surprising. I thought the reason , whoever, had them so far off . Was in an attempt, to get drop right ??
Then I took them both off, and put in new kits, with new floats.
Afraid , they may have been bent this way and that , one too many times. LOL
Thanks again,
KYHunter

The float should be parallel which may or may not be level depending on what carb you have.
