Hi All;

I've decided to rebuild my Mercruiser 3.7 inline 4 - 165hp engine serial # B959792

Before I place my order, I thought I would check here to ensure that I have correctly selected the parts and am not missing anything. Any parts I am ordering are under the "std" column which I believe is the selection if no machining work has been done. The only machining to be done is the valves - all else seems a-ok.

Rebuild Kit: 18-4381
Piston rings: 18-3928 (is this a pack of 4 or a single set??)
Rod bearings: 18-1148 x 4
Main bearings: 18-1147 x 4
Thrust bearing: 18-1149 x 1

That looks OK except I would not use the head gasket in the kit. I would use OEM 27-13709. See those little lines on the OEM gasket, they are beads of silicone that help seal the iron head to the aluminum block http://www.mercruiserparts.com/showSpecialPicture.asp?pn=13709 You probably have an automotive type HG in the kit.

Oh yeah! If you are going to do head work, might want to consider hardened exhaust seats.

Are you positive that no machine work is necessary? Personally, I would drop off the block and have it tanked "cleaned" and checked, if necessary machine work to get it within spec and then order the rebuild parts.

You know we're dealing with thousandths of an inch of clearance for spec??
