Hey,

1996 Evinrude 225hp v6 mounted on a 1987 sea drive bracket. The trim system looks like the original sea drive system.

The trim pump/piston sytem is not holding the motor in the full trim position. After about 15 minutes the motor has dropped to the ground. Should I bleed the system for possible air in the lines or am I going to have to rebuild the trim pump or piston?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

Seeing as how bleeding is the easiest of the two options, I think I'd try that first.

c/6

Hooty

willxuout - I have a pair of 1987 1.6L Sea Drives. By all means bleed the system - over and over and over.

I would highly recommend that you get the OMC shop and parts manual for your motor. They are still available. I forgot where I got mine.

My Sea Drives have not had any problems in the 10 years I have had them. I wouldn't think of trying anything on them without the manual. The Sea Drive section of the manual is very detailed and is over 40 pages.

Re: rebuilding trim pump/piston??? 87 sea drive bracket

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I called a friend of mine who has an 1987 sea drive. He had the same problem about three years ago. Rebuilt the piston and has had no problems since. I'll post the results next week.

Where can I get a 1987 Sea Drive manual?(just need it for the bracket and trim system)

Is the clymer manual for the 1996 Evinrude 225hp looper adequate for troublshooting and minor repair work?
