rebuilt carb, getting fuel to carb, no fuel to engine

I've got a 1964 Johnson Seahorse 6hp that I just rebuilt the carb for. It's got spark, and when I remove the plug in front of the carb fuel comes out (but then stops, should it be constant?).

I sprayed a bit of starting fluid in the venturi and it fires nicely.

It seems to be a carb problem....right? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Matt.

Fuel will stop running out unless you pump the bulb. If you have fuel in the carb, the main jet is clogged.
Did you remove the soft plug and run a wire through the passages?

Recheck carb. and NEVER use starting fluid. No lubrication. Only use pre-mix.

Carb float hung up, require a pressurized tank double fuel line with return hose? How does the squeeze bulb act?

The fuel will only come out if the fuel pump is working . If your motor is not running the fuel pump is not pumping . Take the plug out and prime the primmer bulb fuel should come out every time you squeese it . It seems to me that you are not betting fuel up through the pick up . If I am not mistaken that motor has an adjustment screw on it that allows the fuel from the bowl into the pick up but I could be wrong . Either way did clean the carb and blow out all the junk ? The float may need to be adjusted aswell. Try not to use that starter fluid . It is not good for a 2 stroke marine engine .

So I made up some premix in a squirt bottle, and the motor will run all day long while shooting mix into the venturi.

While I had the drain plug out, fuel would drain, then stop draining, then only come out when I squeezed the fuel line bulb.

I did a thorough cleaning of the carb but late last night realized that a friend had my compressor, so I went with only the aresol can cleaning, so something could still be clogged.

I adjusted the float per the instruction, but I suppose I could have screwed that up.

On top of that, a friend stopped by, we took the fuel pump apart, looked at all the diaphrams, (no tears or holes as far as I could tell) and then put it back togeter and now it leaks!

I'll post more in a minute, I need to look at your posts again....

Thanks

Bulb pumps up until it gets hard. When I drain the carb, I can pump more into the carb. That would mean that the float/needle is working correctly, right?

The fuel is coming out each squeeze as you say.

I'm nost sure about the adjustment screw. My diagram shows a fast adjustment screw where I only have what seems to be a drain plug/bolt. The location of this is the front of the bowl.

Unless I hear otherwise, I'll dissassemble and blow out with my compressor.

.

The soft plug is the knock out/freeze plug looking thing that reveals about four inner passages, right? I did remove that and shoot carb cleaner through, but no wires or compressed air.

Same story on the main jet. Maybe just not clean enough?

Don't let things get confused.

The fuel pump only fills the carb and keeps it filled while running.
Fuel is drawn through the carb by suction from the intake.
If the carb is full, 1/2 full, 1/4 full the motor should be able to draw fuel and start.

Remove the bowl, remove the drain plug. Spray through that opening. That is where the High speed jet sits if you only have low speed adjustment. On the side of the bowl is a hole where fuel passes to the upper part of the carb. Spray should shoot through there.
Locate the mating hole in the main body. Spray there. Spray should shoot through several holes into the main bore.
A wire may be needed to clear the openings.

I use a small pack of welders files.(wire files)

You guys are amazing! Compressed air, a little floral wire, and the thing is running perfectly. Thanks so much for the fast and professional help!

Matt.
