I just got done rebuilding my 5.7L Mercruiser alpha 1 gen 2. And upgraded to a 4 barrel edelbrock 1409 and high rise aluminum air-gap intake, and Comp Cams 262H marine cam. The harness was left dangling by the previous owner when the repowered the original 305. Can someone chime in and give me an idea about where its supposed to bolt up to? I can try to post videos of the engine i took breaking in the cam/starting up and idling if anyone is interested.

Rebuilt 5.7 with before and after pictures and video

Hey everyone, I posted a thread earlier about where my harness plug bolts to and decided to go ahead and post some before and after pictures of the rebuild. Last summer I did some real damage-motor locked up, lower unit and prop completely trashed, and pretty bad damage to the fiberglass after hitting some hitting some rocks running a little to fast at night while the water was down at Nolin lake. It wasn't until this summer that I got around to rebuilding the engine. Still have to get a used lower unit, prop and repair the hull damage though. That will be next summer because I'm a college student and away from home most of the time, not to mention this rebuild has not been easy on the wallet. The cause of the engine lock-up was a couple of spun rod bearings.

I had a 1979 350 that used a bracket that attached to intake manifold. With updated vortec engine that bracket would not fit so I just made a bracket and attachedt the end of the head. All it has to do is reach the boatside plug.

On my motors it's on the front of starboard exhaust manifold.
Will post a picture as soon as I get a chance.

Newer engines (with the plug near the aft starboard side) have a bracket that bolts to the back of the starboard head... It's #4 in this drawing, and you'll also need #2 (which includes the screws ,#3)..

part numbers - #2 is -26079A2 Plate Assembly
Part #4 is -805383T Mounting Bracket.

I was wrong, it's on the same bracket where the shift plate is. IMG_2313.jpg IMG_2314.jpg
Motor is '88.

Thanks for the input guys! I found a way to mount it up coming off one of the bell housing bolts. I should be dropping it back in the boat tomorrow if my buddy is able to make it over with his service truck.
