I have a 65esl72 that it looks like I am going to need about $400 in parts to fix. I pulled it apart and it appears that the oil got low and the thrust bearing under the bearing cap welded itselft to the drive shaft and being cap. So on topp of new seals and water pump rebuild, I need a drive shaft, thrust bearing, shimms and bearing cap with seals.

Anyone know of a place to get a lower unit to fit this? I boats doesnt carry parts according to the website.

Re: rebuilt lower units

Benny's outboard supply was a bust. Thanks anyway Benny. Anyone else got some ideas? Or is there a range of years and motors I should be looking for that will fit or atleast have the same drive shaft?

Re: rebuilt lower units

i looked at those and they guy has no idea what they came from or what the condition is. I just got one off ebay last week that was from a 6esl-71c. the guy said it was a goodworking unit just the power head blew. At first inspection all was fine. The driveshaft turned smooth and it turned the prop shaft just fine. I figured it was just a good idea to pullit apart and reseal it just to be safe. Well it was no good either pinion was all ate up as well as forward gear. I just dont want to throw money at an unknown. And since that guy doesnt seem to know I could end up with the same thing and have 4 bad units instead of just the 2 I got now. I agree its a hell of a deal but with out any more info on it like if it is bad what is bad and what is good its kinda of a waste.
