Okay i have a 1990 monterey with a merc 350 alpha 1 gen 2 i just rebuilt the trim cylinders and now want to bleed the cylinders the instructions say to "plug the holes in the hydraulic connector using plug # 22-38609 or suitabble device".....what is everyone using to plug where the hose comes out of the little block under the stern drive??? i need to block this to properly bleed the system of air yet i have no idea what to use? please help

Just hook it all up and run it up and down a few times. It's self bleeding.
Just keep an eye on the fluid level in the reservoir.

Where did you read those bleeding instructions? And are you sure you have a Gen II drive? They didn't come out till mid 91.

hi don i was told by a friend its a gen 2 however here are my serial numbers i would love to know definately what i have.. the instructions i got from the adults only thread manual #14 page 5a-8 and 5a-7

engine serial # 0d612561

transom serial # 0d571764

drive serial # 0d563751

I can't help with the SN's, but if you look at you drive you can tell.

Look at the trailing edge of the skeg. If it is straight up and down, it is a gen 1, if it angles back it is a gen2.

It is a Gen II, and it is a 91, Your boats hull was probably laid up in late 90, which would explain why it's a newer motor and drive.

I've installed new empty cylinders on boats before, and never had problems bleeding them by just running them up and down a few times.

mine angles back and has the thru bolt design and the stainless steel housing for the impeller. unlike the gen 1's which have the studs....possibly someone upgraded who had the boat before me???
