Recarpeting Bass Boat

I am recarpeting my 97 Nitro 700 lx, I want to use 24 oz carpet for the job but I am guessing the compartment tolerances on the deck were originally only set for 16 oz carpet. Will the compartments still close if I use the 24 oz carpet? I have heard you can shave the compartment lids (not sure how I would do it) but I would rather not if there are any better suggestions out there?

check out bassboatcarpets.com i think that's right...they have a video showing an install with thicker carpet. they talk about 40 oz but i can't remember what the verdict was.
