Next weekend, the admiral and I will be picking up our new boat! We got a great deal on a leftover '09 Four Winns H180 with a 4.3gl Volvo Penta SX!

My wife spoke to the marina a few days ago (I'm on the road all day) and ask for the tongue height of the trailer... They said 18 inches.

Would I be correct in assuming this is the height to the bottom of the ball? Anyone want to double check for me? Obviously I can call them back to double check but I thought I'd try out the forum! ;)

Thanks in advance

Ayuh,... If you have 18"s anywhere on the ball, it'll be Close...

Hook up to it to see Exactly where it's gotta be to keep the wagon near level...

Re: Receiver/Ball height

Just last week I set up my Son's new car and measured the other 3 cars in the garage. Ground to top of receiver ranged from 19-21". That;s to where the ball mounts. Obviously, another 2 1/2 or 3" to the actual top of the ball.

When your hitch dealer sells you a ball mount, it is designed to give you the specific amount of drop at the TOP OF THE BALL. As stated- get close to 18" and let the vehicle squat a little to get you to the height that most hitch manufacturers will require which is around 16".

Most ball mounts are reversible so the provide "rise" in one orientation and "drop" in the other. As pointed out, most trailers will be level with the coupler at 18 - 19 inches.

Wow... you guys are quick! Thanks for the replies. I'm going to set things up for 18" to where the ball mounts. I can let it squat a little if it's supposed to be 18" to the top. I've got an air ride rear suspension in my truck so I can keep it up if I have to. It's a 3 hr drive so i'd like to be fairly level. Thanks again!

Is it a single or dual axle? If it's dual (or more), you should set up so the trailer is level at road weight and distribution, which you won't be able to determine until it's hitched up. I wouldn't do or buy anything irreversible until then. Won't matter if it's a single ... ;)

You could always call them again for a more accurate measurement.
Enjoy the new boat.:)
