Receiver hitch install

I bought a 2002 Nissan Frontier and bought a factory Class III receiver hitch. I have removed the bumper and lightly installed the hitch. It now instructs me to use a torque wrench to tighten everything at a precise torque. Now that I know everything fits, why not use loctite (medium or high strength) also? I cannot envision a scenario when I would want to remove the receiver. I realize it is very unlikely for vibration to back off the bolts but I am a bit anal with these things. I am sure there will be those with objections; I am just wondering "why not"? Thanks in advance.

the loctite may interfere with the torque reading. other than that is say why not.

Re: Receiver hitch install

I would, I installed a hitch and learned two years later that 1 of the 8 nuts had worked itself off.

That torque specification is there for a reason. Tightened lighty, the lock washer doesn't seat properly and the nut can back off.; Too tight and you stretch and weaken the bolt threads.

It's not alwys a good idea to put that piece of extension pipe over the ratchet handle and pull like crazy. Does some interesting things to the bolts. ;)

Loc-tite will make sure it stays on for the first year or so. Rust will make sure it stays on from then on. LOL
When I went to take the bolts out of my bumper in order to install my Reese hitch it took a 4 ft. cheater bar AND a torch to get them off.
