I posted a week or two ago in regards to whether or not I should rebuild my carbs. I was thumbing through my repair manual tonight and stumbled upon the recirculation system testing. For those not familiar my engine('92 225 Johnson Model # j225TLERK) runs somewhat rough at idle after sitting on the lake for a time(however it also began doing this when leaving the launch first thing). Then after sitting for awhile fishing or whatever the engine would begin idling poorly, sneezing(if that's what I think it is anyways), and then slowly run out of fuel (or at least act like it did, especially when you trim the motor all the way down). Anyways, I was thinking carb rebuild but when I stumbled on this recirculation thing it describes the exact same symptoms. And I quote, "this check should assumes that one or more of the operational symptoms for trouble with the recirculation system are present. These symptoms include poor or erratic idle(have that), fouled plugs in lower cylinders only(had that), excessive smoke when accelerating after and extended idle or idle quality that is unusually sensitive to trim angle(for sure have that).
Sorry for the long winded post but was hoping the ole' wise ones on the board would inform me of whether this would be worth checking before rebuilding my carbs. It would be a whole lot cheaper if this fixed it compared with carb rebuilds.
