Re: Recitifier test

A simple test would be to put a voltmeter on your battery when it's running. If it's showing 12 volts, your probably running off your battery, should be 14 volts, more if you don't have a voltage regulator.. Also, if you have a tach, it will show 0 rpms if the rectifier is blown.

Re: Recitifier test

go to radio-shack and ask for a "25 amp full wave bridge rectifier"

they cost about 3 bucks, charge better and faster than OEM, and , well, they only cost 3 bucks, instead of 40.

you can use them on ANY outboard that has a charging system. i have on on my 1976 OMC 115v4 right now

Re: Recitifier test

go to www*ishopmarine*com and look on the left hand menu, click the "parts list" link

from there choose mercury and choose your motor and youll find it. save that page!youll need it again, unless you could cough up 25 bucks and get a stinkin' manual. i boats sells them

look under the flywheel at the stator, follow the 2 yellow wires down untill it meets the rectifier. you should have 2 yellow wires coming in( ac voltage) and one red wire going out ( dc voltage)

Re: Recitifier test

not exactly. on the recitifer ( from radio shack) you will have 4 terminals:
2 for the AC voltage coming in
1 for the dc neg -
1 for the dc pos +
the 2 yellow wires from the stator are the AC coming in, the red from the old rectifier is the DC going iut, and you will need to rig up a new, short black wire, about 6 inches, to connect the ground, as the origonal was grounded through where it attaches to the block.

mike

peace
