Recoil Slipping on 9.9 Merc 4 stroke - 2005

Hi, I have a 9.9 Merc 4 stroke, 2005. The recoil was slipping when I first picked it up but it did get worse over a few uses. I replaced the dogs and springs that push out when the recoil string is pulled. This helped for about 2 runs and now it is slipping again.

I cannot see where the issue is except if the round part that the dogs extend into is worn as well.


Any thoughts on this? I do not want to buy new dogs/springs again just to have them wear out again...

Just an update for anyone who may have this happen to their motor.

I was given some good advice from another site to try to solve my problems and it worked. Thought I would pass it along here.

Looks like the mass amounts of grease on the springs/dogs seems to have broken down. I cleaned it all out, added a small amount of oil and it now does not slip at all.
