recoil spring

i have a '64 18hp evinrude.

i cannot find a new recoil spring anywhere.

the last one i bought was used and it didnt last very long.

can someone point me in the right direction?

ive been thinking about buying a parts book for both of my older obs......... i also have a '72 9.8 merc i have trouble finding parts for.

Of course, having the correct parts book is the right way to go, however you can get by with the one at http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=fc502fad3f51ed0e319aa8bdd7efb79a and order parts there too. Their books only go back to 1968, but there are very few differences between '64 and '68.

i didnt know how much differences there were in the newer ones so i gave up on shopevinrude for my old fastwin.... maybe now ill look at some of the '68 diagrams and see whats what.
