Took my 1978 25 hp manual start motor out the other day. Motor started and ran fine but i could here a clicking noise inside of cowling. Didn't think nothing of it. Stopped boat. Go to restart and pull rope pulls very easily. Take hood off and find that the top of the recoil assembly is cracked open in an almost full circle on top. The nut on top had come loose and the screw had come out and everything came loose and rattled around. I have repaired the recoil top by hammering it down and jb welding it. Now i cant figure out how to put the spring back in the assembly. Also what is the best way to reattach the pull rope so it will hold. Every time i tie a knot it comes undone. It looked like it had some red stuff on it from the factory. And lastly when replacing the recoil assembly how do you get the arrow to line up with 2 lines? Ive tried and i always have a good 6 inches of rope hanging out of recoil start. Thanks for any help
