Recommend a lube.

Hey guys,

I need to lube my u-joints, gimbal bearing, outdrive hinge pins, prop shaft, and splines for the outdrive drive shaft which goes through the hull. What do you all use for each? For the joints with grease gun fittings, do I just pump until there is a little resistance?

And you have what kind of drive that you are asking info on? ? ? ? ? Merc, OMC, Volvo? Maybe a year

Gimbal bearing needs about 15 pumps of axle grease. The U-joints I pump until I see grease coming out of the joints. Axle grease there too. The swivels get 2-4-C grease. Steering joints usually need a few pumps each, tilt pins only one or two. The splines on the driveshaft get any kind of grease. I use 2-4-C. There is a specific spline grease offered if you want to go that far. I use it if I have it, but I don't worry if I don't.

Thanks guys, and sorry for the lack of info. It's a 1985 Merc Alpha MR on my 17' Sea Ray.


Any grease is better than no grease at all......heh, heh.
