Any votes for "the best" place to have OMC V4 blocks bored/honed? I am in southern New England so local is better. However, I have three to do, so if there's a real good place nationally, the shipping should be worth it.

Block boring. I really understand this question. To get the block bored is easy you just need a honer(tool usually placed on a drill to place inside clyinder has abrasive stones on end spins to make surface smooth) place some oil and go. There more to it than that you got to measure the clyinder when your finish to see what size rings you need for you new clyinder size. Then you need some way to find out what size rings to get" have to check for your new clyinder size". Then you check to make sure that your clyinder size difference that you now have now ok to use the same pistons "Whew". It important to get the measurment right takes special tool to measure the clyinder. But if you can ask maybe the dealer or a shop to give some help or if they can find or look some size that you might need. If read up and check on it I think you could do it yourself.------------------------------------
This is just advice to help . I will not be liable for anything or for wrong info. This is just my opinion.
But to the best of my knowledge it is good advice I will never knowingly post wrong info.

You can't bore a cylinder with a hone. You will end up with a cylinder that is out of round and probably have some taper to it. A hone is used to clean up the bore job and put a cross-hatch pattern on the cylinder walls to help seat the piston rings.

Re: Recommend good place for block boring?

ledgefinder I think the best way is what Rodbolt said.
R.Johnson- Walker: I did have a little to much wine when I posted that last message. Now I remember after you get the clyinder rebored you use the hone to finish is that what you trying to say to do because this stuff is interesting to know and I don't want to do wrong when I do it lot of work and time. I glad you guys posted the best way to do it. Any way if I said something wrong I left my leagal message at the end. But this is the way I remember the teached doing this stuff in eight grade class was we used a tool ( I forget what it was called but that's all we used you keep moving back and forth in the clyinder and keep squirting some oil on it then when you got all of that done he measure with a micro meter I think was called something to the 10 of thousands for the ring size we order " But it might be wrong the part with the honer" Now if I ever do it I will know to just send to mechine shop) And rodbolt knows a good one so I will write down. They seem to do it all that needs to be done. If not they tell you what you need if you need something else I guess.
