2004 Hurricane Sundeck SD 187 (18' 10"). Boat is heavy IMO. I have trip tabs and a a stingray. Looking for better overall top speed. Currently with the family, WOT 4400-4800 - can hit about 33-36 mph. Would like to get a little more speed out of it.

Current prop is the volvo OEM 19 pitch, 3 blade in aluminum.
  • Part(s): #3850301
  • Manufacturer: Volvo Penta
  • Brand:Volvo OEM
  • Material: Aluminum
  • Diameter: 14 - 1/2
  • Pitch: 19
  • Blades: 3
  • Rotation: Standard (Clockwise)

you need more motor or less weight.

throw the fin away (its probably slowing you down)

your already propped in the right RPM range.

You might pick up 1 or 2 MPH by removing the hydrofoil. Not needed since you have trim tabs.

Your WOT RPMs are where they should be IIRC, so you are also in the ballpark for top speed. How much are you willing to pay for a slight increase? Another prop might get you there (I'll let the experts discuss different styles that might help), but you'll be spending several hundred dollars, most likely.

Got it. Fin will come off today.

I have about $500 to play with on a new prop. Would it help to go SS?

My one regret about the boat is that I feel it's under-powered - but I will have to live with it unless I win the lottery.

Forgot to mention - SX drive (not that it makes a difference), 225 hp, 3339 wet weight, 3700 with my wife's crap.
