Hi,
We are considering purchasing a Zodiac Pro 9 boat here in MA to take and ship with us to our summer house in Croatia.

I read the specifications about the minimum (40hp) and maximum (70hp) engine allowed (50hp recommendation) however we often have many people 7-8 come with us on the boat so I would prefer to have the extra power to plane out when there are extra people coming along.

We have family friends that have a Pro 7 with a 40hp Yamaha and it seems when the boat is loaded (6-7) people that it cannot plane out.

Would a 60HP Yamaha or Honda engine be adequate for gliding/planing out the Pro 9 zodiac?

70hp engines are rare from what I can tell (and too heavy for the Zodiac).

Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Recommended engine for Zodiac Pro 9 boat

So you would recommend a Yamaha 70hp 2-stroke 3-cylinder (228lb) over the Yamaha 4-stroke, 4-cylinder EDI 60hp (237lb)?

What would be a good place to look at these Zodiacs pre-owned?

Thanks!

I would recommend a 2-stroke above any 4-stroke ......

With a 70hp Yamaha and a Pro 9 Zodiac will I be able to plane with 8 or 9 people? Not so much interested in top speed as planing with the maximum number of people I can fit into the boat.

thanks!
