Hello all,

I've heard some people say that they prefer Penzoil Gear meth in their lower unit over the high preformance synthetic stuff you get at the boat shop.

I personally am a big fan of penzoil gearmesh - but thats in my cars and truck.

The marine requirements are a little different but if the case is sealed i can't imagine it would be that bad, the thing is very similar to a axle differential.

Comments welcome!

Yeah, The case is sealed--MAYBE--. Remember: It's always under water. If a seal goes--not uncommon--the small seals on the fill screws tend to leak a little--and a little water gets into the case, the marine lube has more anti-oxidation inhibitors. In fact, you can have a gearcase with a lot of free water in it and as long as you don't open it up, the gears will not rust. Once you open it you must clean and re-lube the gears in a timely manner.
