Recommended RPM on a 96 model 70 evinrude

Hey guys, i have a 70 evinrude and when i bort the boat,the dealer said the revs i want to stick to are from 3800 to 4200,but from what i have been reading,i could be going up towards 5500.<br /> what are your opinions.<br /> cheers Brad

Thats a good cruise range depending on you boat and set up of course. However, you want that motor to be capable of 5900-6000 with an average load.<br /><br />To be honest those motors are kinda touchy in the mid range. The way the mid range is calibrated the middle cylinder seems to suffer from extended mid range cruising. At that rpm you're running at or near full timing advance and very little fuel.
