We have a great Sony stereo in our boat, with detachable face plate, and lots of presets, the only problem is it's not iPod ready, and we'd really like that. It's a standard size, so that shouldn't be a problem.I'd like to stay Sony if it's possible because all the speakers in our boat are also made by Sony, it doesn't need to be a Marine one (our current one is not). If anyone has any recommendations, let me know. I dont want to buy a peice of junk.

First pull the stereo out and see if it has any RCA inputs on the back. Dont confuse them with RCA outputs. If you do go to a electronics store (radio shack, best buy ect.) and get a 3.5mm to RCA cord for about 15 bucks. Just incase you didnt check already.

I know that there are outputs on the back, I'll double check tomorrow to make sure that there aren't inputs, I'll try it with one of the cables tomorrow, we already have a few of them laying around so that shouldn't be a big deal.

Sweet! hope it works for you. Somes times the bigger autoparts stores around here will have a kenwood deck with 2 speakers on sale for 99 bucks. I have been using the same deck and it seems to do a good job, it has the aux input on the front, thats why i bought it.

It has inputs, but they won't work unless I buy another adapter for approx. $100.

Stick with Sony. I used to install car audio. Nice thing with Sony, when you are at full volume the head unit amp is not clipping so you can go to full volume and it still sounds good as long as your speakers can handle it. Most other manufactures the amp will start clipping and sound like crap before you turn it all the way up.
Clipping is what an amplifier does when you turn it up to far the end of the sound wave is actually flat instead of round and the speaker won't produce clean sound that way.
