Recommened oil viscosity?????

Hi all,

Sorry for the title, here's the problem.

My merc 3.0 liter 4 cyl. from 1988 is requesting 40 single grade oil for normal temps. Know I am wondering what newer engines request?????

Because today I went to an authorized merc dealer and all they had was 10w30 and 25w40.........the merc brand.

They (the guy at the counter) said to go with the 25w40.

Does merc still have single garde oils?
What do you guy's go with?

Merc doesn't sell single grade oils, and as I recall, they never have.
Here's is the newest Merc service bulletin on oil.
