Rectifier burned up!

The motor is a 2000 Mercury 200 HP EFI. The voltage gauge on my dash has been showing this engine charging the batteries below the normal level that it read in the past. About 4 months ago, I took my boat in to have the charging system checked on this engine. I was told that the engine was charging the battery fine, and the charging system was RPM's this motor died. What could have caused this rectifier to burn up to this degree? Thanks for the help.
Re: Rectifier burned up!

Mine burned up last year because the wires were loose, happened after jumping a big wake.
Needless to say I'm into the electric box every month or so to make sure everything is tight.. :)

Scall Did mine look as bad as yours? Do you recall what it cost you to repair?

Yeah, they cook. The cover to my electrical component box was melted on the inside from the heat.
They aint expensive, around 20 bucks.
Check the merc partsexpress site, yours may be more being it's a bigger engine then mine but not much more I bet.
I heard they sellthem @ Radio Shack for like 5 bucks but I went with the Merc parts to be safe..
Hopefully one of the Techs will chime in because the way your plugs have connecters it may have not arcced like mine, you may have something else happening there..

Re: Rectifier burned up!

Thanks for the info. It would be nice if one of the Mercury techs chimed in. I am really concerned, because this looks like something more then a voltage rectifier going bad. Anyone else got any ideas what caused this to happen?
