In my haste this morning I hooked up my battery backwards.
I literally just finished putting the motor back together from a rebuild and stupid me, here we are. At least that's the worst thing to go wrong so far, if you don't include the parts and machine shop work.

I did read Joe's topic on rectifiers, so I know it's shot, as there is load on the battery without anything being on and it heats up.
I would like to start the motor on muffs and run it for a couple of mins.
Can I simply disconnect it, and get a new one tommorow?

Disconnect all of the rectifier wires and tape them. Make a map so you will know where to put the new ones.

Yes you can disconnect it and run the motor, if it will run
Defective rectifiers can and will turn the stator into a heater and toast the charging coils. It may be too late, you'll find out soon if it won't charge.
