On my Johnson 4st. 2002 70hp the trimgauge gets wobbly, same for the tach which works nicely till 4000 rpm's and then won't go up any further while rpm's increase. Feathering off and the tach feathers off nicely from 4000 down. My voltgauge is steady and give a reading of 15 volts without wobbling or anything. If the voltgauge gives a steady reading, does that mean that your rectifier is OK ? Appreciate yr advice

Re: rectifier dying ?

not always. depending where you take your readings the battery can stabilize voltages. there should be some simple ways to test a regulator directly with a VOM. Have you consulted your manual?

The first thing I would do is check all battery connections in the whole system both pos and neg. IE: Battery, connections on mtr, under dash and ect.
