I need to replace a bad rectifier on my 1994 Mercury Tracker 40hp, 4 cyl, 2 stroke outboard. I purchased a new one based on the serial number of my engine, 0G100240. I figured I could simply remove the plastic cover from the electrical box, but I can't find the rectifier. If it is in there, then I bought the wrong part. Could it be under the electrical box, which appears to be removable by 3 bolts thru to the engine? The part I am looking for is shown in the pic. Can anyone tell me where this part is? I hate to start removing bolts from my engine without knowing what they are for.....

Thanks

Follow the yellow brick....eeeer, follow the yellow wires that come from under your flywheel that originate at the stator's windings, they'll lead you to the rectifier or rec/reg.

Not sure but, I think that engine came with either a 9 or 16 amp stator and there were options as far as just a simple rectifier (as you've shown) or a square rec/reg.

Either way, the yellow stator wires will lead you to your destiny Luke....

Sam am I, Thanks for the lead. I found I had bought the wrong part. The correct one is a small square looking box with 5 wires running to it. A rectifier/regulator combination. I got the part number I needed off the old one, which is extremely helpful. The force is strong in you......
