rectifier/ regulator

needing to buy a rectifier/ regulator for a 1985 gt150 went to a dealer and he tried to sell me one with only three wires and a red wire missing the purple wire is this a new up grade or the wrong rec/reg thank you

Could be the correct one, but dealer should be happy to explain the difference to you. If he doesnt know, he is just a free phone call away from tech services.

Many of the new BMC reg/rec no longer have the purple wire ,which was keyed 12 volt source,and were redesigned since the red wire is constant 12 volt anyway.Your not saying the new one has no red wire are you?

I replaced the rectifier in my 89'200 Johnson last year. Used Sierra aftermarket rectifier. No purple wire. Instructions said purple was not required. It works fine.<br /><br />Leave the wire, that connected to the old purple, attached to the terminal so it won't short something out. <br /><br />Found out that loose main battery connections are usually the cause of rectifiers going bad.<br /><br />livebaiter
