Rectifier/Tachometer Question

I'm trying to hook up a tachometer on my Mercury 70 hp. The motor is about a 1977, but the powerhead is some where in the 1980s. What I really need is a little help on the wiring. I don't have any other gagues hooked up on the motor so I know that makes it harder. First of all where do I get the switchable power for the tach. I'm guessing I can hook up it up to some part on the motor that comes on when the switch is on, but which one? Also, I have a 3 terminal rectifier that I just replaced. Which of the 3 terminals do I hook up the sender signal to (only one terminal of my rectifier is marked with one or two +)? And my last question is can I hook up the ground wire to the ground that grounds the upper half of the motor to the lower half or vise versa? I'm not too worried about the light bulb, but I assume that you hook it to the same switchable power as the tach's power. I would really appriciate some detail on this situation.

Re: Rectifier/Tachometer Question

connect terminal marked + to the live side of the solenoid (big cable from battery). the 2 stator wires go to the other 2 terminals, connect your tacho sender wire to either of the stator terminals.you can pick up a + and - (grnd.)from the battery or any where you like on your dash.<br />cheers jonah.

Re: Rectifier/Tachometer Question

If you go to the motor either one of the yellow wires on the rectifier, but you should have a plug on the front of your control box to plug into
