Rectifier, What Does it Do?

Can anyone tell me what a rectifier does? I have a 93 250 Yamaha.

It converts AC voltage to DC voltage.

So it probably has nothing to do with stalling and misfiring. This one is water cooled.

The charging system on the engine consists of magnets in the flywheel that pass over stator windings when the engine is running. This creates AC voltage that feeds the charging system. But AC can't charge a battery so the rectifier converts the AC voltage to DC. Most engines today also include a voltage regulator that maintains charging voltage to a safe level so the battery isn't overcharged.
